Celebrity: Barney Wavering: Puts Pressure on President Bush

President Bush, who has long maintained that he would continue his support for the Iraq war, “even if Laura and Barney are the only ones supporting me,” has been forced to reconsider his position. While his wife Laura remains steadfast in her support of the president, the dog Barney has begun to waver. It is unclear why Barney the dog has chosen this moment to throw a wrench in the system, but he definitely is less happy about the war than he was only a few months ago. Barney is perhaps unhappy about former secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfelds presence in the Doghouse. Bloggian suspects that Barney is used to better accomodations, and besides, the former Secretary smells bad. “Among Laura, Barney and me, Ill admit that Barney was the weak link,” said the President in a news conference yesterday. “I havent said I would change my view on the war yet. Laura and I are looking at our options, we are going to make a decision very soon. But Ill admit– Barneys wavering has had an influence.” Bush aides say that President is looking for a stronger statement from Barney, and that “to-date Barney remains a de facto supporter of the war.” Others suspect that Barney is becoming corrupt. Since the president revealed the central role that Barney plays in his foreign policy decisions Barney has been courted by key Democrat Nancy Pelosi, and has entertained visitors to his dog house as varied as Cindy Sheehan and Colin Powell. Its not easy to influence a dog. The president has picked his supporters well, but were working on him. The dog is definately the weak link,” said anti-war congressman Charles Rangel of New York. “I think were making progress.”
