Ecology: Trees for Troops Drive Threatens Deforestation of Montana
Environmentalists cried foul today when an organization devoted to supporting our troops overseas labeled them as Anti American. “We have not only received threats against our members, but we have received threats to burn the forests north of the Mason Dixon line,” said Jane Wheedle, a self proclaimed environmentalist from the northern california environmental group “Stop the Stop the Stop the Tree Stoppers Stoppers”. But an unidentified source who claimed to be associated with the National Christmas Tree Associations Christmas Spirit Foundation but whose claim cannot be verified calls the claims unfounded and stated it was most likely ill will on the part of some fringe environmentalist elements. “They may be a little sad and jealous of our solid family life, as we know most of these environmentalists live alone in the woods because they were orphaned or put up for adoption at an early age,” the source said. Richard Moore, a tree farmer who is coordinating the collection of upstate New York trees for the Christmas Tree Farmers Association of New York, proudly points to some of the benefits of tree-giving. “Any American would want to help out. Last year, my church sent a small Christmas tree to a soldier in Iraq who was from our congregation. He decorated it, put it on the back of his M1 tank and sent us back a photo. He came home this summer and told us how touched he had been by what we had done. Imagine touching thousands of people like that.” [www.chron.com] It has also been reported that the trees add a touch of joy and cheer to otherwise hostile, bloody desert towns filled with death and dismemberment. But Jane Wheedle replied only, “We want to be supportive. Thats why were also issuing a call for planting a forest of photos of trees when people receive one.”
